The Geospatial Artificial Intelligence Working Group (Geo-AI WG) is an open network that drives innovation at the intersection of geospatial science and artificial intelligence. Founded in 2019, the group meets bi-weekly to design and prototype novel Geo-AI tools, develop applied research, and advance the real-world use of AI for understanding and addressing real world challenges.
With over 400 active members spanning academia, government, and industry, the Geo-AI WG focuses on three core pillars: Capacity Building, Applications, and Knowledge Sharing. Through hands-on workshops and training at events, the group strengthens Geo-AI expertise; through applied projects, it transforms AI research into actionable solutions.
Additionally, the Geo-AI WG Lecture Series (YouTube Playlist) connects thought leaders advancing the frontiers of Earth observation and machine learning. The group also leads the development of the EarthRISE: Applied Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning Book, a practical guide to AI and deep learning for Earth science practitioners. Open to all, the Geo-AI Working Group supports those practitioners and decision makers who aim to leverage geospatial innovation and approaches to address real world challenges.
